Achaval Ferrer Finca Bella Vista Barrel Tasting

Achaval Ferrer Finca Bella Vista 2008, barrel tasting
Grapes from Perdriel in Mendoza
Not released as of the tasting.

The Malbec grapes used in this wine are from the middle-altitude parcel of land from Achaval Ferrer’s stock. Also note that, when I tasted this wine, it had just been put into a barrel and was still 18 months away from market.

Beautiful, dark color, but not as intense as the Altamira 2008.

Floral aroma, but still weak, since it hasn’t picked up the oak yet.

Smooth, even more so than the Altamira 2008 from the barrel. Very floral on the palate. Surprisingly, there is very little acidity, even though it’s so young. Nice bitterness in the back of the mouth. Rather round, with a long finish.

Again, even though this wine still needs 18 months, it’s better than numerous wines available on the market. It’s immature, but a glimpse of its greatness is apparent. Watch out for this wine!
