Torrontes.
$11-$15 on Wine-searcher for the 2008. $14-$16 for the 2007.

This wine was part of a tasting, so I was unable to find out its exact year, but I suspect it was the latest year at the time, the 2008.

Pale yellow, with some shades of green in there.

Aroma of fruits and flowers, like roses and peaches, though nothing notable.

Bitter, and it leaves a bad aftertaste. Very dry, and weak on flavor. Still, a good balance to it b/t acidity and fruitiness. Some notes of peppers, orange, and honey are discernable.

Overall Score: 2.2/5.0.

Torrontes
$18 to $20 on Wine-searcher
Keeper, especially for Value

Crystal clear, with green tints. Transparent, greenish reflections are nice.

Dried fruit aroma—peaches and cherries. Cinnamon and tropical fruit also present. The aroma is quite lovely and surprisingly strong.

Rather dry, but great. The flavor reaches the back of the mouth—somewhat round, especially for a white wine. A tad bitter also, but in a smooth way. There’s a nice fruitiness that helps to balance the dryness. It also has a refreshing acidity that kicks in as you savor it in your mouth. Overall, it’s very refreshing and drinkable.

Overall Score: 4.0/5.0. One of the best Torrontes wines I’ve had, and a great way to start off a meal, especially for the price.

Carinae Torrontes Deneza 2007
100% Torrontes
Region: Salta
$13 on Wine-searcher. 1 Vendor.

Note that this wine is from Salta, instead of Mendoza. Salta is particularly suited for white wines and is one of the few other wine-producing regions of Argentina.

Nothing much to say of the color—just a pure white, with some fogginess to it.

The aroma is of green apples, cherries, plums, and peaches, as well as tropical fruits in general. It’s actually quite nice.

In terms of taste, it’s rather light, with very little flavor and few overtones. It’s also rather dry. There’s really not much to say—it’s meant to be another light, smooth, white wine, and Torrontes isn’t known for having strong flavors to it.

Overall Score: 2.5/5.0

Not available online. $14-$15 on Wine-searcher for the 2007.

Contrary to its name, this is from the young line of the winery.

White, crystal color, with few tints. Great, fruity, sweet aroma. Very dry on taste. Great contrast between the dryness of the wine and the sweetness of the aroma. Rather smooth and light, too. Very young, and it’s youth really shows. Little length.

Overall Score: 2.5/5.0, for me, personally. More of a 3.0/5.0 for the normal wine drinker. Wine Spectator even gives this wine 90 points, but that’s probably too high for something this simple.
