MarieBelle Dark Chocolate Croquette Bar
Composition: Dark Chocolate Bar with Cookies.
Region of Production: America.
Price: $13.
This MarieBelle Dark Chocolate Croquette Bar is, to say the least, underwhelming in nearly every way.
First, the presentation is extraordinarily simple. The bar is wrapped in a clear container, without even a name or a list of ingredients or some flavor written across. It comes off as underwhelming, especially compared to the several other bars that Mariebelle produces, which feature pin-up girls prominently on the wrapper. Nor does the bar itself impress, featuring no designs or any creativity. It simply looks like a gourmet rice crispy, with mashed cookies dominating the surface.
As for the taste, this bar is pretty decent actually, but in an oddly perverse way. I do like that the focus here is definitely on the dark chocolate taste, as the cookies, while relatively sweet, still exude a marked dark chocolate bitterness. Moreover, the cookies are integrated nicely into the bar, coming in whole pieces that provide a very satisfying crunch.
The bar, though, is plagued by some very fundamental problems. First, it’s still too sweet, becoming cloying at times. Second, the chocolate is, again, almost completely overshadowed by the dark chocolate cookie. Next, the cookie is, contrary to the label, not very buttery, but extremely hard. In fact, the bar is as hard and as heavy as a rock, to the point of being more of a tough cookie than a chocolate bar. Finally, and most importantly, it’s very bland—just a dark chocolate cookie, with very little nuance.
MarieBelle’s Dark Chocolate Croquette Bar, then, should be avoided, especially at its exorbitant price tag.
